Scouting for Food

The Need is Now

There are three parts to the Scout Oath: Duty to God and country, duty to self and duty to others.

Scout families across the Garden State Council are invited to answer the call of “duty to others,” to work together to make a positive impact and demonstrate that “A Scout is Helpful.”

As we work together to stem the tide of COVID-19, many families are struggling. Demand for help from local food pantries is on the rise.

Together, we know how to execute Scouting for Food. It’s the council’s signature service project each fall. Helping the hungry is what we do. Let’s work together, plant our collective flag in the ground and spring into action.

Ever family in the Garden State Council is asked to participate in a community service project by following these 3-steps:

  1. Get a bag. Any bag will do.
  2. The next time a member of the family goes safely to the grocery store, fill that bag with food. How about 19-items in support of those fighting COVID-19?
  3. Deliver the bag safely to the Food Bank of South Jersey, or a local food pantry close to you, so that the food helps our neighbors in need. Be sure to follow social distancing guidelines.

The goal is to complete this “Scouting for Food” service project on or before May 19th, again in honor of those fighting COVID-19. This doesn’t have to just be your family either. Invite others to participate too.

Spread the Word

Scout families are encouraged to post pictures on social media of their Scout working on the project. Maybe it’s organizing and bagging the food at home or in the car delivering the food. Post your pics and tag @GardenStateBSA and use the hashtag #GardenStateScoutsHelp. Show South Jersey the love our Scouting community can provide!

Track your Action

Scout families are asked to report to their Scout leader how many items were donated. Scout leaders are asked to enter the data below. (click the button). This is critical as this will be used to ensure that every Scout who participates earns a special one-of-a-kind patch to recognize their hard work and service. Stay tuned for an image of the patch.
